Oh, jeez... here's something I haven't see for a little while: a first draft. After finishing the Lieselotte story, I've had a lot of downtime as far as active writing is concerned. Well, with the short story poll up I've decide to start work on the top contenders from the list.
And wow... one of them is really rough. See, I started most of these stories before I began work on The Paladin, and that novel took more than a few years to create. I'm finally going back to give these stories another crack and, well... my writing has changed. I'm trying to stay true to the idea I had before, but writing it out has shown a few flaws. This one might need an extra draft or two. I'm much more excited about one of the other stories, one that I only recently was inspired to write. It's new. It has nothing anchoring it to the past. Whatever I decide goes with this one. I know this sounds weird. I mean, there's nothing to stop me from changing up the first example. It's my story whether I adhere to my old design or not. But there's something about it. I feel a kind of obligation to give my younger self's idea a chance. Don't get me wrong, I won't write something I know is terrible, but I just feel like whatever harebrained idea I had started this deserves to be played with before I cast it aside. But yeah... it's rough.
