First off, just back from the long trip to Tucson and I'm happy to say I had a blast with Claire and Vander. I hope we can do this again some day.
But onto literary matters... While I'm not officially participating in NaNoWriMo, I do think it's an amazing opportunity to get some words in on stuff that you've been holding back on. I recommend it for everyone, whether you want to publish or not, whether you have a fleshed out idea or not. It's writing and it's good for your soul. You'll be surprised what you have inside you. As long as you can, there isn't really a good reason not to do NaNoWriMo. If you're worried about the quality, don't be. This isn't a contest about writing quality. For once, it's almost entirely about writing quantity. Get a novel's worth of words out of your head and onto the paper. What if it's not good? Oh well. You can fix bad. You can't fix blank. Write it anyway. You don't have to share it. You don't have to do anything with it. It's really just a challenge for yourself, something to prove that you have it in you to write a novel. Ah, but what will Mr. Preachy be doing during this month, huh? Well, I have query letters to get out, so I'll be writing those. I have to tailor each one to the individual agent. And I have to put together a proper synopsis (as I think my current one isn't serving my novel well.) On top of that, I need to figure out if there are any literary competitions (other than NaNoWriMo) I qualify for so I can try to gain a little more in the credentials department. It's weird. I can brag about a few things in my life, from the pro wrestling to the journalism stuff, but I have nothing to really show for my writing and, honestly, it's the thing I care about most. Point is, I have a full plate for this month on the writing front. If I feel froggy, I might start doing some preliminary research for my next novel in the The Paladin Series. Maybe I'll take on a short story. But it has to be a legit short story and not the novellas I keep writing. Anyway, write. Oh, and vote! That's coming up, too! Write about voting...? Eh, your call on the last one, but do those first two! Don't Forget to be Awesome!
