Now, don’t go thinking I’m done with The Paladin by any means. What my incredibly clever title is referring to is the next step. I’ve been giving it a lot of thought and I think I want to work on the new batch of recruits story. I absolutely love Jonathan, but I think I need to rest my brain on his story for the time being so that I’m not so burned out.
The next story is going to focus on a new batch of Paladin recruits, fresh from the academy. Now, writing my initial novel had challenges in that Jonathan’s group had four members that needed to be focused and expounded on. This will be much tougher, as the total will be eight! As you read The Paladin you learn that St Renard’s parish is short on members. A normal parish has a minimum of four (which Jonathan conveniently fills out) and goes up to ten. Being that this will be a new parish, it only makes sense to have a full compliment. How I’m going to find a role for each character and make them all stand out is going to be a challenge, but that’s how you grow as a writer. I’m thinking it might be a series of short stories that lets me focus on individuals, all convening into one overarching story line. It’ll give each character a time to shine as a main protagonist while still building up to something. Well, that’s my New Year’s resolution. What’s yours? Let me know and make sure you keep focused. This is only day one. Dont forget to be awesome!
