Okay, so you don't have to like the movie this came from (though, for the record, I actually liked Suicide Squad) to enjoy this particular track. Heathens by twenty one pilots is great song for writing about groups who, within The Paladin, are literally referred to as freaks. It also doesn't hurt that the people referring to them as such are tied to a holy order. Just the name "heathens" elicits a strong, visceral reaction. You know exactly how these people are looked at and, perhaps, how they even feel about themselves. I've been using this song, obviously, when trying to get a feeling for how freaks, heretics, and other enemies of the Order might conduct themselves. How they might act around the Paladins or even just in comparison. The song sets a feeling. These are people shunned by society and they know how they're looked at. They've taken to owning the label given to them. They 're suspicious of outsiders. There's a dark feeling to the whole song. It's great. So, take a listen to Heathens, and get busy writing about your own group of misfits and outcasts. DFTBA
